Memo:
How Structuralism Was Born
Initially, there was an atmosphere that "Contemporary Thought" originated from France. Structuralism was not limited to the framework of Philosophy, but had a wide range of influences, including Cultural Anthropology, Structural linguistics (Saussure), Theory of Gift (Marcel Mauss), Semiotics, Mathematics, Psychoanalysis, and more.
What is Structuralism
Structuralism (Levi-Strauss) rejects the Eurocentric way of thinking inherited from Marxism and Existentialism (Sartre). This has caused a lot of controversy. A notable aspect of Structuralism is that it has overwritten the ideas that were originally influenced by Western thought. It has successfully achieved Relativization, which was not previously accomplished.
What Levi-Strauss Did
Levi-Strauss wrote a book called "Sad Tropics." It can be read in the book "Malinowski, Levi-Strauss (World Famous Books)" that tkgshn.icon has. The message of the book is to stop seeing "primitive and savage people" in a negative context. Levi-Strauss was a university professor, but due to various circumstances, he had free time. As a result, he had the opportunity to talk with top people, as mentioned in "Introduction to Structuralism #607e339f09c5f20000be9dba." He learned structural thinking from these people and proposed the concept of the "Cooking Triangle," which can be understood from the works of Saussure's theory of signs and Jakobson's phonemic triangle. https://gyazo.com/03fddf7ebfe22e761f4ea3a3c86c3eca
